East of England Regional Transfusion Practitioner Meeting Terms of Reference

Introduction to the Group

The East of England Transfusion Practitioner Network (hereafter referred to as the TP Network) is a sub-group of the East of England Regional Transfusion Committee (hereafter referred to as the RTC)

Aims and Objectives

The TP Network consists of Transfusion Practitioners from within the East of England region.

The aims of the group are:

  • to share good practice
  • receive education on identified topics and contribute to the education of others
  • review and discuss transfusion related issues and National Directives
  • exchange support and advice with other members of the network.
  • To participate in audits and surveys as required

The group feeds into the National Transfusion Practitioners group supporting their work in facilitating and strengthening best practice resulting from the Transfusion Practitioner role. At least 2 members of the TP Network, including the Chair where possible, should represent the region on the National Transfusion Practitioner Network group.

The group also feeds into the RTC, identifying topics, facilitating regional audits and providing expertise and advice on regional guidelines. At least 2 members of the TP Network, including the Chair where possible, should represent the group on the Regional Transfusion Team (RTT).

The TP Network also reports directly to the RTC via its RTT members and updates are given at RTC meetings.

Operational Issues

The group will aim to meet quarterly either via Microsoft Teams or at a suitable location. A joint meeting will be held once a year with the EoE TADG Group.

Meetings will include:

  • education for TPs, incorporating topics identified by Network members.
  • update on current issues relating to the NHSBT service to hospitals and blood transfusion in general
  • exchange of information, good practice or concerns from individual hospitals

These meetings will be chaired by a representative / joint representatives elected for a period of 2 years with the option to be re-elected for a further 2 years. A deputy chair / joint chairs can also be elected for the same period.

The NHSBT Patient Blood Management Practitioner in post will provide support and the RTC Administrator will act as secretary. Material deemed to be confidential will not be minuted or referred to anonymously.

In addition, relevant information may be circulated to members electronically as it becomes available between meetings.
