As a senior nurse leader, Louise has worked in the NHS for over 30 years, specialising in haemato-oncology very early in her career. Previous roles include manager of a haematology and bone marrow transplant unit and National Lead for NHSBT’s Patient Blood Management Team. In addition, Louise was one of the first Transfusion Practitioners and led many initiatives to develop the role and improve patient safety. Louise is passionate about improving transfusion practice and has helped develop and implement transfusion strategies and guidelines, having been involved in the design of the previous national Better Blood Transfusion and Patient Blood Management initiatives.
Since 2022, Louise has led the successful NHSBT Transfusion 2024 programme, a programme with a broad remit and commitment to operational improvement. Louise is currently working with leaders across the NHS to develop a revised strategic plan ‘Transfusion Transformation’ and to deliver the recommendations of the Infected Blood Inquiry.
