Following today's communication from NHSBT regarding pressure on O D negative red cell stocks, NBTC would like to remind colleagues that the updated national red cell and platelet shortage plans are now available.

The plans provide guidance to support consistent decision-making during periods of reduced blood component availability and complement ongoing Patient Blood Management measures.

We encourage transfusion teams, laboratories and clinical colleagues to familiarise themselves with the guidance and review local arrangements.
