The National Transfusion Practitioner Network (NTPN) consists of representatives from each of the Regional Transfusion Practitioner Networks in England and has representation from the British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS), the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) and NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) Patient Blood Management (PBM) team. The primary purpose of the group is to work within National Blood Transfusion Committee (NBTC) objectives to promote safe, effective and appropriate transfusion practice by facilitating best practice resulting from the Transfusion Practitioner role. Aimi qualified as a HCPC state registered Biomedical Scientist in 2007. She has extensive experience working as a specialist Biomedical Scientist in haematology, coagulation, and blood transfusion laboratories in Newcastle upon Tyne.
In 2014, Aimi joined the Transfusion Practitioner team in Newcastle. During her time as a TP Aimi has accessed training courses and opportunities to expand her transfusion knowledge, and network with key stakeholders both locally and regionally. Due to this Aimi was promoted to her current role as the Advanced Transfusion Practitioner for the Trust.
Aimi believes in the importance of continuing professional development and the importance of collaborative working and is an active member of the British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS).
Her leadership qualities became evident in 2021 when she was appointed chairperson of the National Transfusion Practitioner Network (NTPN), a working group of the National Blood Transfusion Committee (NBTC). In this role, Aimi is committed to representing the Transfusion Practitioner workforce at both regional and national levels.
